Finished off my two reports from yesterday. Weather looks misty at the moment and will probably turn sunny later. I was going to go down to Ashford but i may well defer that to next week now when i go to Canterbury for more visits.

Watched all of season three of Charmed on E4 channel and now they are showing Season 4 each weekday morning. This is the arrival of Paige, which being the more wayward half-sister , is my favouirte of the lot.

I intend to do a dedication for my LJ folks, much like what [livejournal.com profile] penelopes_web did recently.

Meanwhile here is a poem by Stevie Smith.

The Pleasures Of Friendship - Poem by Stevie Smith

The pleasures of friendship are exquisite,
How pleasant to go to a friend on a visit!
I go to my friend, we walk on the grass,
And the hours and moments like minutes pass.

Sums it up nicely.

This sounds about right lol!

Although with me, it would be book shop, record shop, men's clothing stores and wine shops, and in that order.

I feel a folk moment coming on, so here is selection of some of my favourites -

Dick Gaughan - Worker's Song

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrdl4ijru8o&ab_channel=barcelona36

This is Dick Gaughan's rendition of a great working class rebel song, which appeared on his 1981 album Handful of Earth. Originally written by the north-east of England singer and songwriter Ed Pickford (who has his own page here on YouTube).

Maddy Prior - The Fabled Hair

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi7jJAXQrds&ab_channel=PerchKing123

One of my all-time favorite songs by Maddy Prior, melding historical elements with mythological elements in a grim but triumphant tale of a witch who seeks to escape her murderous foes by transforming herself into a hare...
I hope this video continues to lend strength & support to all of those people out there whom embrace "the old ways", be it druidic or wiccan. I dedicate this clip to all of you, with all my love & best wishes. However, I don't care to read anymore twisted & hateful remarks from a twisted minority of lunatic haters out there.

"THE FABLED HARE"

I shall go until a hare / With sorrow and sick mickle care
I shall goe in the devil's name / An while I come home again.

I am ruled by the moon, I move under her mantle.
I am the symbol of her moods, of rebirth cycle.
I am companion to the gods, I can conceive while I'm pregnant.
I call the dawn and spring in, I am the advent.
I bring life from water in a cup that must be broken.
I whisper to the bursting egg, I'm Aestre's token.

Scent of dog, scent of man.
Closer, closer, smell them coming.
Hot breath, hot death.
Closer, closer, hard the running.
Tongues pant, hearts thump.
Closer, closer, through the fields.
Teeth snap, Bones crack.
Closer, closer, at my heels.
Nearer yet and nearer.
I can feel the poacher's knife.
He is running for his dinner.
I am running for my life.

Wynter wakeneth al my care
nou this leues waxeth bare
Ofte y sike ant mourne sare
When hit cometh in my thoht
Of this worldes joie hou hit geth al to noht.

Man sprays no weeds.
The scythe cuts, the corn bleeds.
Leverets trapped in a harvest blade.
Tis the time of man the hare said.
Here's the tractor, here's the plough.
And where do we go now?
We'll lie in forms as still as the dead.
In the open fields the hare said.
No cover but the camouflage
From the winter's wild and bitter rage.
All our defense is in our legs.
We run like the wind the hare said.

I've been cursed, I've been despised
As a witch with darkest powers
I shall goe until a hare
I've been hunted, trapped and punished
In these my darkest hours
Wi sorrow and such mickle care.
I've been thrown into the fire
But I do not fear it
I shall goe until a hare.
It purifies and resurrects
And I can bear it
With sorrow and such mickle care.
I have outrun dogs and foxes
And I've dodged the tractor wheels
I shall goe until a hare
I've survived you persecution
And your ever-changing fields
With sorrow and such mickle care.
I will run and run forever
Where the wild fields are mine
I shall go until a hare
I'm a symbol of endurance
Running through the mists of time
With sorrow and such mickle care.

Here is an old BBC doc - The Shadow of the Hare - and its role as a deity.
