Hastings and Eastbourne Visits
Apr. 26th, 2016 10:35 amYesterday was a really long day - did not arrive back home till eleven last night - so today i am taking the day off. Listening to the radio , Radio 4 to be exact, and it is Woman's \hour, a celebration of bouncy - i mean Beyoncé. Not my fave artist but i do like this -
Beyoncé - Irreplaceable.
Anyway, in Hastings, i had an all day big breakfast at the supermarket cafe, did my visit to the jewelers, and then found these in a charity shop.

I then took the bus to Eastbourne to do another charity shop visit , which was a purchase and refund scenario. Whilst in Eastbourne i found this double DVD set for a quid!

These are the two films with music by Philip Glass, hence my music post last night. I also found this superb African folk album for a quid.
:format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-4977786-1381157911-8468.jpeg.jpg)
Souad Massi - Khalouni (Let me)
I then caught the bus to Tunbridge Wells and had a couple of beers at the Opera House pub. I then caught the train up to Strood and back home.
I might just pop over to Faversham to sell some books. Otherwise i am bit brassic till Friday.
Meanwhile a couple of pics from yesterday and the first answer a question that
thespian15 asked. It was covered over ast time with a red hauling.

This one is of Eastbounre pier. I love the luminous forboding clouds behind it.

Peacekeeper
Apr. 26th, 2016 11:42 amI seem to be a peacekeeper.

Enneagram Type 9 - The Peacemaker
Keeping peace and harmony
Enneagram type 9 - The Peacemaker
People of this personality type essentially feel a need for peace and harmony. They tend to avoid conflict at all costs, whether it be internal or interpersonal. As the potential for conflict in life is virtually ubiquitous, the Nine's desire to avoid it generally results in some degree of withdrawal from life, and many Nines are, in fact, introverted. Other Nines lead more active, social lives, but nevertheless remain to some to degree "checked out," or not fully involved, as if to insulate themselves from threats to their peace of mind. Most Nines are fairly easy going; they adopt a strategy of "going with the flow." They are generally reliable, sturdy, self-effacing, tolerant and likable individuals.
Nines tend to adopt an optimistic approach to life; they are, for the most part, trusting people who see the best in others; they frequently have a deep seated faith that things will somehow work out. They desire to feel connected, both to other people and to the world at large. They frequently feel most at home in nature and generally make warm and attentive parents.
The Nine's inability to tolerate conflict sometimes translates into an overall conservative approach to change. Change can provoke unpleasant feelings and disrupt the Nine's desire for comfort. Less healthy Nines seem incapable of motivating themselves to move into action and bring about effective change. When change does come however, as it generally will, Nines find that they are usually well able to adapt. They tend to be more resilient than they give themselves credit for. In fact, Nines tend not to give themselves enough credit in general, and their self-effacing attitude often seems to invite others to take them for granted or to overlook their often significant contributions. This can cause a subterranean anger to build inside the Nine's psyche, which can erupt into consciousness in occasional fits of temper which quickly blow over, but which more often manifests itself in passive agressive footdragging. Being overlooked is often a source of a deep sadness in Nines, a sadness that they scarcely ever give voice to.

Finzi Eclogue
Apr. 26th, 2016 12:14 pmAs
cmcmck pointed out it is the 60th anniversary of the death of Gerald fizi, a composer that IMHO should be better known. Here is his wonderful Eclogue - this music seems so poignant and melancholic.
Gerald Finzi - Eclogue for Piano and Strings
Peter Donohoe, Piano
Northern Sinfonia, Howard Griffiths, conductor
Plus an added bonus -
Here are three of Gerald Finzi's Five Bagatelles, composed originally for clarinet and piano duo - arranged here by Lawrence Ashmore.
"Deep roots are not reached by the frost" - JRR Tolkien.
Gerald Finzi - Five Bagatelles - Op.23
Northern Sinfonia
Conducted by Howard Griffiths
Clarinettist: Robert Plane
The three inner bagatelles are represented, in the following order:
II Romance
III Carol 4:18
IV Forlana 6:15
I wonder if Julian at Fine Records in Hove is listening to this.

Halliwell Manor
Apr. 26th, 2016 12:55 pm

I've often wondered whether it was the house of the Halliwell's really exists. And yes, the house is there, really, it's not a fake. The house is in the well-known Victorian street in Los Angeles of Carroll Avenue. All the scenes inside the house were in corresponding replicas filmed in the studio.
Every now and then, there have been some scenes shot in the real manor! The house has been from the company Spelling Television purchased!
In the TV series the house of the Halliwell's is in the Prescott Street, San Francisco. In reality, the house is in 1329 Carroll Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90026. The house is called "Innes house" and it was lived in by Daniel Innes, one of the first aldermen Los Angeles built in 1887-88!
Also interesting are the old black and white photographs of the Manor.
Souad Massi
Apr. 26th, 2016 01:36 pmAnother artist that i want to bring ito your attention is the cross cultural fertilizations of Souad Waasi. She is an Algerian singer of Berber descent, songwriter and guitarist. She began her career performing in the Kabyle political rock band Atakor, before leaving the country following a series of death threats. In 1999, Massi performed at the Femmes d'Algerie concert in Paris, which led to a recording contract with Island Records.
Massi's music, which prominently features the acoustic guitar, displays Western musical style influences such as rock, country or the Portuguese fado but sometimes incorporates oriental musical influences and oriental instruments like the oud as well as African musical stylings. Massi sings in Classical Arabic, Algerian Arabic, French, occasionally in English, and in the Berber language, Kabyle, often employing more than one language in the same song.
So far she has recorded seven albums.
Souad Massi - Manensa Asli (Miwawa) aka I Won't Forget my Roots
Souad Massi - Ya Kalbi Live
Souad Massi - Ghir Enta
J'adore.
Enjoy.
