Elly Griffiths "The Crossing Places" (Arthur A.Levine Books)

I enjoyed Elly Griffiths', The Crossing Places, first of a series featuring forensic archeologist, Dr. Ruth Galloway. In fact, this was the second book by this author i found recently, the other being "A Dying Fall",  and perhaps should have read this one first. It's easy to read and I went full steam ahead. I felt the pacing was just right for me whilst waiting for deliveries via parcel carriers.

There's some very descriptive writing regarding the landscape of the Saltmarsh setting and its isolation. This is a fairly desolate part of Norfolk for the geographically challanged.

The author writes in the present tense which was initially jarring but I got used to it.

There is good information on the Bronze and Iron Age, Norse mythology and archeology, which I enjoyed learning about.

There is reasonably good character development for a first book of a series. I felt our protagonist, Ruth, was quite realistically written and forgave her few uncharacteristic actions and behaviours.

The plot was slightly predictable and I did pick out the killer before the actual reveal. Perhaps slightly disappointing in that respect but overall this is a good read.

The Crossing Places shows a lot of promise and having read one later in the series they do get better.

I popped over to Sittingbourne this afternoon to hand over the Change of Address document for the council to continue getting my benefits , as well as posting off another slab of vinyl I sold on Discogs I so;d for £14 to a gent in Eire. I also picked up some curtain poles as I have just the bare window and door with no curtain, and just a net curtain covering the window, which means that I am rather exposed when I come out having a shower, drying myself and being half naked or fully naked lol!

The previous tenant took their damn curtains and poles with them, but when they moved into number nine here they realised that the curtains would not fit their new place. Silly bint ! However, I did obtain the curtains for free from them but needed the poles to hang them up. Luckily John from flat 33 did the measuring up for me to get the poles and he will hang the curtains up for me tomorrow.

A new hoover is coming tomorrow, which my bro got on Amazon, and knowing that my broadband will be live tomorrow, I ordered from Amazon a much needed toilet cleaning brush and holder, and a very lovely floor standing lamp with a stepless dimmer and flexible gooseneck for that prefect light for reading and relaxing.

Last night in the Leading Light pub , which is my new local Spoons pub, I watched three episodes of Black Lightning , so now I am up to date with that series. I also had the Angus steak as it was steak night – it was delicious as always.

I am typing this up in the other local The Ship Inn – Percy the parrot is whistling and cooing – but so far no expletives despite them coming often from the patrons of the pub. At least I no longer need to frequent any pub in the evening as often I do at the moment just to get onto the internet. Tomorrow cannot come soon enough.

Now I must do some work Friday Saturday and Sunday as I am way behind and had to cancel some jobs. Friday I should or must pop over to Ashford to do a supermarket visit and Ramsgate for a charity shop visit, which leaves a phone shop visit in Brighton to do,and other charity shop visits in Hythe, Deal, Paddocks Wood Lewes and St.Leonards On Sea. A few hectic days ahead.

Watching episodes of Agent Carter again from the first season – just because they are so good and what a pity she only lasted two seasons. Hayley Atwell is great as the eponymous agent .Another great series in the Marvel universe.
