Just finished watching part one of the 2012 version of Dune based on Frank Herbert's eponymous science fiction book. A difficult book to pull off. David Lynch did it once, which was good in parts, and then there was a TV mini-series of it, but this one looks like it will be the best having watched the first two and a half hours or so. The film only covers the first half of the book, so there will be a second film coming at some point to complete the book - I look forward to it.

Thank you OnionPlay - now all you need now is a decent copy of the latest James Bond and Marvel movies - as both are clearly pirated from a cinema.

Another mixed bag of a day. Some sunshine but generally cloudy - but no rain this time. A wee bit colder as well.

I popped into town to see Kate at Past Sentence. Sold a few paperbacks for four quid and then looked around the market. There was a record dealer on the market and I picked up two vinyl albums for a quid each.

The Dory Previn album from 1971 I have had before, so it was great finding a copy again.

This is a fine compilation that was issued in 1986. A lovely collection of old jazz music.

I then had a saitsidying pint of Dead Parrot in my local before walking home

Time for jazzy poetry -

Annie Ross with the Tony Kinsey Quintet - Bellini

Singer Annie Ross teams up with Brit Jazzer Tony Kinsey to turn the poetry of Christopher Logue into jazz goodness.
Ross had sung these songs at Peter Cook's Establishment Club in Soho. Typically anti-establishment in a very 60s way, this is my favourite on the album.
The lyrics are inventive and funny, Ross is in perfect form and Kinsey provides some great support.
His quintet included Les Condon on trumpet, Pete King on tenor, Brian Brocklehurst on bass, Gordon Beck on piano as well as Roy Willocks on tenor and flute, Malcolm Cecil on bass, Bill le Sage on vibes, Johnny Scott on alto and flute and Stanley Myers on piano
Recorded in 1963 this is a gem of a record and a gem of a song
