Morning Grooves #1
Oct. 2nd, 2019 07:43 amThree sounds that have been Wired -
Laurie Anderson, Tenzin Choegyal, Jesse Paris Smith - Lotus Born, No Need to Fear
Songs from the Bardo' begins with a bell ringing out once, twice, three times, as a ritualistic chant emerges from the dense silence. The collaborative composition by avant-garde icon Laurie Anderson, Tibetan multi-instrumentalist Tenzin Choegyal, and composer and activist Jesse Paris Smith is a guided journey through the visionary text of the Tibetan Book of the Dead, unfolding in an 80-minute ebb and flow of sound and words. Songs from the Bardo is a transporting experience, meant to draw the listener into the present moment and provide a framework for inner exploration. Anderson, Choegyal, and Smith fuse modern compositional techniques with the mystique of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy to make these visionary traditions more accessible to a new generation of listeners and to reveal the ancient wisdom contained within.
Black To Comm - États-Unis
Esperanza Spalding - 12 Little Spells
Richard Dawson - Two Halves
Richard Dawson - "Two Halves" from the new album '2020', released 11th October 2019 on Weird World / Domino. One for
poliphilo.
Enjoy.

Morning Grooves #2
Oct. 2nd, 2019 08:11 amSome more music from Wire magazine -
Perila - Nats Poems (Feat. Nat Marcus)
Garcia Peoples - Heart And Soul
Without losing a ray of sunshine or a drop of dew, "One Step Behind" is the first major statement by the malleable Brooklyn sextet. The 32-minute title cut highlights the twin guitars and songwriting of Tom Malach and Danny Arakaki and, instead of pointing itself towards one possible future for the band, just zaps itself squarely into the thick of it. Encompassing a range of moods and scenes in one flowing arc (plus a coda), it's less a piece of music to listen to than it is a zone to occupy, a portal for all open-eared heads. The band's third album in a year-and-a-half, "One Step Behind" is unquestionably their boldest yet. Whether or not you thought you knew Garcia Peoples' music, "One Step Behind" is something new and beautiful, for new heads and old.
Wet Tuna - Goin'
From the LP "Water Weird"
Enjoy.

Perfectionists
Oct. 2nd, 2019 09:21 amI have had umpteen questions about the condition of the book by Pirandello from this geezer and he is beginning to piss me off a bit. Yes, the book does have a minor crease on the front cover that curls towards the book than away, and that it is not noticeable to the naked eye unless you roll your fingers over it, and yes, the pages are perfect with no sign of yellowing, creasing nor anything written in pencil or pen by previous owners of the book. Jeez, but then some people are perfectionists!
A play on words but two different bands - nice tunes or is it tunas?

Back In Town
Oct. 2nd, 2019 03:26 pmI popped into town and posted off an LP I sold on eBay and then decided to have breakfast at Spoons. So I had the two eggs, two hash browns, three slices of bacon, one sausage, two black puddings, beans and two slices of toast option. It was very filling and delicious of course.
When I arrived back I checked eBay to find I sold another book, not the Pirandello, which is full of Buddhist wisdom.
Whilst in town found these for a quid - well it was three for a quid offer - in one of the charity shops -

It has been sunny again but the morning was much colder and does feel very autumnal now.

America - A Horse with no Name
Oct. 2nd, 2019 06:50 pmOn the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound
I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain...

Book 84 - Marc Chagall "My Life"
Oct. 2nd, 2019 11:00 pmMarc Chagall "My Life" (Penguin Modern Classics)

Chagall's writing is very reminiscent of his painting: the feelings of a child-genius.
'Here is my soul. Look for me here; here I am, here are my pictures, my roots'
Marc Chagall, one of the twentieth century's most popular artists, grew up in a close-knit, bustling Russian-Jewish community, the son of a herring seller. In his colourful, dreamlike autobiography, written as he was about to leave his homeland for good in 1922, he vividly brings to life the memories and places that fed into his unique work, from his shtetl childhood to revolutionary Russia and Belle Èpoque Paris. Filled with Chagall's own evocative illustrations, My Life is as warm, joyful and humane as his art. Something that we all need in this tumultuous life.
