What a delight to receive a written letter by post (mail) in these days of email correspondence. Yes, an actual letter from a man I did not know, Tony Clare. He knew Ros through the company she worked for until retirement, the property management firm Jonathan Rolls. Tony was a surveyor at the time and worked on various projects with JR and with Ros' assistance. He had every intention of attending Ros' funeral but after returning to the UK the week before from a trip abroad he was 'pinged' by NHS Test and Trace and had to isolate for seven days. Such a pity. Then came the part in the letter that took my breath away...

He went on to say that by a strange coincidence he and Ros had another pre Jonathan Rolls association because she worked for a while in the early 70s for a firm of Bristol architects Power, Clark and Hiscox who did a lot of work for J. Lyons. Tony was a surveyor in their Estates Division. Here is what he didn't know. In 1972 I met Ros for the first time in Bristol when she worked for Power, Clark and Hiscox!

Bristol and Brighton - 180 miles apart, a span of five decades and a coincidence that really had me stunned.

I will keep his letter and will certainly write back. Marvellous.

In Town

Well, it is warmer but with the threat of rain, lightning, and thunder. So, I decided to get to town early, and post another lot of stuff to Ziffit, and pick up some cans of beer. I might venture into a pub tomorrow rather than today.

Picked up three CDs for a quid in a charity shop in West Street. These are -

George Winston - December (Windham Hill Records)
Katia and Marielle Labeque - Blanc et Noir, The Debussy Album (Phillips)
Cesar Franck - String Quartet / Piano Quintet (Naxos)

A nice selection of classical genres.

Oh, that git at number 14 gave the art stuff to his niece who wants to do graffiti art, and after saying that I could have them. I will not trust what he says in the future.

Tine for some beer I think.

Well, I actually did some sunbathing in my sweet spot. It was a gloriously sunny day.
I walked into town as well to get some more plastic posting sleeves for books I sold online.
I had not realised that it was a bank holiday (the May Day one) today either and was confused by the fact the post office was open. I overheard somebody else mention it.

The only buses riding on Sundays and bank holidays are the 333 to Sittingbourne and the 3 to Canterbury. Today I noticed that the 3 was going to Sittingbourne as well as the 666 going to Ashford and the 660 to Selling and 638 to Whitstable, none of which normally run on a bank holiday.
Strange times indeed.

We even had our postie deliver the mail twice!! The post has been rather erratic of late and I guess they were catching up.

I wonder what will happen at the next bank holiday towards the end of this month.

I popped into town and posted off an LP I sold on eBay and then decided to have breakfast at Spoons. So I had the two eggs, two hash browns, three slices of bacon, one sausage, two black puddings, beans and two slices of toast option. It was very filling and delicious of course.

When I arrived back I checked eBay to find I sold another book, not the Pirandello, which is full of Buddhist wisdom.

Whilst in town found these for a quid - well it was three for a quid offer - in one of the charity shops -

It has been sunny again but the morning was much colder and does feel very autumnal now.

Going up to London today and dropping off work at EMS in Chiswick, and then to Notting Hill to exchange some vinyl stuff.

The work from another company finally arrived yesterday after it being posted to me last week and returned to the office from whence it came without me being carded to say the postie tried to deliver it! It should have arrived in time for the 15th. That's how crap our postal service is nowadays!

Oh at least my "Novi Singers" LP arrived quickly. It is a compilation of some of the best vocal jazz from Poland.

Momentous day yesterday as Obama became the President of the USA. I wish him well in his turn of office.
