A Remarkable Letter
Feb. 26th, 2022 12:55 pmWhat a delight to receive a written letter by post (mail) in these days of email correspondence. Yes, an actual letter from a man I did not know, Tony Clare. He knew Ros through the company she worked for until retirement, the property management firm Jonathan Rolls. Tony was a surveyor at the time and worked on various projects with JR and with Ros' assistance. He had every intention of attending Ros' funeral but after returning to the UK the week before from a trip abroad he was 'pinged' by NHS Test and Trace and had to isolate for seven days. Such a pity. Then came the part in the letter that took my breath away...
He went on to say that by a strange coincidence he and Ros had another pre Jonathan Rolls association because she worked for a while in the early 70s for a firm of Bristol architects Power, Clark and Hiscox who did a lot of work for J. Lyons. Tony was a surveyor in their Estates Division. Here is what he didn't know. In 1972 I met Ros for the first time in Bristol when she worked for Power, Clark and Hiscox!
Bristol and Brighton - 180 miles apart, a span of five decades and a coincidence that really had me stunned.
I will keep his letter and will certainly write back. Marvellous.
