Some more music from Wire magazine -

Perila - Nats Poems (Feat. Nat Marcus)

Garcia Peoples - Heart And Soul

Without losing a ray of sunshine or a drop of dew, "One Step Behind" is the first major statement by the malleable Brooklyn sextet. The 32-minute title cut highlights the twin guitars and songwriting of Tom Malach and Danny Arakaki and, instead of pointing itself towards one possible future for the band, just zaps itself squarely into the thick of it. Encompassing a range of moods and scenes in one flowing arc (plus a coda), it's less a piece of music to listen to than it is a zone to occupy, a portal for all open-eared heads. The band's third album in a year-and-a-half, "One Step Behind" is unquestionably their boldest yet. Whether or not you thought you knew Garcia Peoples' music, "One Step Behind" is something new and beautiful, for new heads and old.

Wet Tuna - Goin'

I just remembered - when I found the two Tom Cora CD's I also found  this seminal album by the Byrds for a quid. One you rarely find in a chazzer.

The CD comes with extra tracks and a lovely annotated booklet. Fave track though has to be this one -

The Byrds - Eight Miles High

Another great band - one that i discovered via The Wire magazine of all things modern and less than mainstream is the Flaming Lips. I would like to get their new album at some point.

Anyway the reason for mentioning them again is that they also appeared in an episode of Charmed. The song is "Do You Realize".

The Flaming Lips - Do You Realize

The whole album was composed by them after they hit the big time with Moon Safari.

Next up is Deerhoof, whom i saw live once, and from Friend Opportunity i have chosen the track The Perfect Me -

Penultimately from the folk compilation Feel The Spirit i have chosen Chimacum Rain by Linda Perhacs.

A  lovely piece of trippy pysche folk. Now where is my hash?

And finally from the Jurassic 5 album a track called Freedom.

Apart from doing some revision and doing a practice test in which i received 76 % correct questions , nothing else much happened today. However , the response to my Brighton music theme this morning was very positive. I would love to do a whole post on post-rock  uber cool band  Electrelane, but for now, that shall wait till another time.

I was trying to remember all the bands i had seen live whilst i lived in Brighton. These were bands or artists that i was alerted to by that excellent bible of avant garde music , The Wire.

Top of this list is Acid Mothers Temple and The Melting Paraiso at the Freebutt pub -

This is one of my favourite albums by them. Jap psyche rock musos!

Next, Sunburned Hand Of The Man at some arts place where they showed avant garde films  in Brighton - Seen them twice actually.
Here is a track called Nice Butterfly Mask.

At the Sussex Arts Centre i saw the Chicago Underground Duo -
A track from the album Synesthesia  called Blue Sparks Form Her.

At a small theatre event , name escapes me, i saw Jaga Jazzist live. Like the Chicago Underground Duo , cool and brilliant live! so here is a funky number called All I Know Is Tonight.

On a tour with fellow Africans i saw Salif Keita live at the Dome. Awesome. A track called Cono.

Yeah some great live concerts and some  top notch groups. In Part Two i shall plays clips by Faust, Devendre Banhart ,Joanna Newsom,  Toumani Diabate , and Oumou Sangare. The last two were on African Soul Rebel visits  and i sure miss them!

Okay, before i get ready to go out, video clip of the day, is from the Flaming Lips Cd bought yesterday, and as a wizard in the making, i thought this track might be appropriate, a totally wigged out fuzz laden guitar and synth groove  - The Wizard Turns On.

.

Far out,man!
