Looks like it will be another sunny day and will last till around four in the afternoon. This will piss off [livejournal.com profile] thespian15 no end. So I shall take a pic to rub it in lol!!!

It is also very mild. Registering around 12C here.

This is the view from my front door.

Lunch was lamb with minted gravy and veg delivered directly from Wiltshire Farm Foods. Just microwave it according to the instructions. It was delicious. It was an offer of four meals for a tenner.

Of course, washed down with a Guinness Porter ale (6.0 % ABV)

I might need to have an afternoon siesta.

Candlemas

So as today is Candlemas the Xmas cards that were up on the wall have come down now. The wall there looks pretty bare and thi=us I am pondering as to what I could fill that space up with.
I do have a poster from National Geographic that would fill it up. I might do that or fill it up with my meanderings of paint.

Now that I did an abstract on the back of that paint-by-number board, my bro has sent me a pack of 12 acrylic paints yesterday and four canvasses today - all via Amazon. If he expecting any realistic portraiture then think again. I tend towards the Jackson Pollock, Braque, Barrett Newman, Yves Klein and Tracy Emin area of expressionism. There was a book that came with them which I will read, and if inspired, might take it further, but I will need an easel, detachable palettes, and a range of brushes and paint/palette knives.

Oh and if you are not sure what Candlesmas is - it is the festival held on 2 February to commemorate the purification of the Virgin Mary (after childbirth, according to Jewish law) and the presentation of Christ in the Temple. Candles were traditionally blessed at this festival and is traditionally the 40th day of and the conclusion of Christmas - hence taking any Xmas cards or decorations down.

Yes, I am an artist - a piss artist!

A couple of poems concerning this month -

FEBRUARY AFTERNOON

by EDWARD THOMAS

Men heard this roar of parleying starlings, saw,
A thousand years ago even as now,
Black rooks with white gulls following the plough
So that the first are last until a caw
Commands that last are first again,---a law
Which was of old when one, like me, dreamed how
A thousand years might dust lie on his brow
Yet thus would birds do between hedge and shaw.

Time swims before me, making as a day
A thousand years, while the broad ploughland oak
Roars mill-like and men strike and bear the stroke
Of war as ever, audacious or resigned,
And God still sits aloft in the array
That we have wrought him, stone-deaf and stone-blind.

I'm Not Just February
by Annette Wynne

I'm not just February
With winds that blow
All day, and piled-up snow;
I'm Washington and Lincoln, too,
Who kept our country's flag for you!
I'm Valentine of airy grace—
With golden hearts and hearts of lace
And pretty cards that people send,
Quite as a secret, to a friend.
Though I am short of days and small,
I'm quite a big month, after all!
