A New Day

With the shops reopening again - especially bookshops, music shops, and charity shops, it feels like a different year already. Mind you there is still danger from those countries such as Brazil that with their "in denial" presidents that have the worst number of deaths from COVID that can threaten the world.

Anyway, I am out today heading townward to post off another Ziffit box of unwanted stuff, post three sale items from eBay and see what charity shops are open and if they have any bargains. It is quite exciting.

Beer Again

Well, at least it was sunny if cool but I did have my first beers at Spoons - al fresco alas - since the heavy lockdown. Not much reaklale but as expected for the first day, so I had a Ruddles  County followed by a strong craft ale which was
the Brewdog Elvis Juice (6.5 % ABV).

I also checked out the chazzers and picked up a few bargains, three CDs and a box set of the complete Yes Minister / Yes Prime Minister DVD set - total of five seasons in a five DVD box.

No more than three quid in fact.

CD's were

Edvard Grieg - Peer Gynt Suites / Nielssen - Aladdin - SFSO / Blomstedt (Decca)
Jan Dismas Zelinka  - Missa Paschalis / Lianiae Omnium Sanctorium (Nibiru)
Magic Sam And The Teardrops - Raw Magic (Alligator)

Not a bad start to the week.

OMG!! Best find of the day from a charity shop or as we Brits call them - chazzers - was this Decca CD from 1991 for fifty pence. Now I do know Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt Suites very well, but the Danish Carl Nielsen's Aladdin suite was new to me and what a wonderfully evocative piece of music it is. Here are just a few of the seven pieces that make up the suite. Check this version out if you see it.

Nielsen: Aladdin, Op. 34 - Concert Suite - 1. Oriental Festive March

Nielsen: Aladdin, Op. 34 - Concert Suite - 4. Chinese Dance

Nielsen: Aladdin, Op. 34 - Concert Suite - 7. Negro Dance
