A true antidote to the sad remembrance of 9/11.

Emma Raducanu wins US Open by beating Leylah Fernandez for maiden Grand Slam

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/58533341

Raducanu is the first British woman to reach a Grand Slam singles final since Virginia Wade at Wimbledon in 1977. The victory means that she is now Britain's number one female tennis player!

This truly was a fairy tale of New York.

And she comes from Kent and thus her home town of Bromley will be proud!!

Utterly remarkable -

She is so wonderfully natural about it, and exciting.

England !

I don't often talk about sport but hey as it is football there is something i must state - in fact i have been dying to say this for awhile - since the end of the last season in May - , and that is - i am so happy to say that Brighton and Hove Albion will be playing in the top league this coming August !

After so many years in the doldrums, having their old Goldstone ground sold to make way for a retail park in 1997 which led to Brighton having to play some 70 miles away at Gillingham's Priestfield stadium, and then in the 1999-2000 season The Seagulls moved back to Brighton and started playing their home games at Withdean Stadium, a converted athletics track owned by the local council ,finally moving to the new Amex stadium just outside of the city on 2011. They deserve being in the top flight playing against Spurs ,Arsenal, and my decrepit cousin's Chelsea.

Yeah that damn Chelsea team won the Premiership again! At least Leicester bucked the trend the previous season.

And another reason for this post -

Julie Benz visits as Spurs beat Arsenal 2-1
Tottenham Hotspu

Julie Benz visits White Hart Lane in an attempt to understand just what it is about the club that has left to become a football widow to her husband Rich Orosco.

Fortunately for Spurs TV, Julie allowed us to film behind the scenes for her debut match in the crowd as Spurs beat Arsenal 2-1.

I wondered how Russia and Qatar got to host the World Cup, and it seems that they did buy votes to win. The shenanigans continue at FIFA which,in my opinion, is unfit for purpose!

I knew it all along that FIFA were a corrupt bunch of morons , and i hope Seb the president of FIFA also gets done. I reckin that slippery cad will get away with it again. Fancy having a Word Cup in Qatar of all places for example!

I rarely mention sport on here but seeing the highlights of the match between Man. City and Arsenal was a revelation. City won 6 - 3 in  a game that had some terrific goals from both sides. A game that makes football "the beautiful game" it is.

I did a couple of hours at the Office on a really sunny warm day. I needed to print out some stuff for my next round of visits. Tomorrow i will be going to Bromley and to eat out in Paddock Wood.

I have been struggling to finish off a few books, being distracted by other things such as television drama, quiz games and science fiction drama.

I watched a couple of Ken Burns documentary on jazz on the American PBS channel, and have a number of films recorded on the Sky box hard drive to watch. Spot is filling his boots with sport, such as football, cricket, snooker and of course the IPL 20/20 cricket on ITV 4. He now has both Sky sport and the Sky film channels, and of course will be watching the Chelsea game tonight.

Think i will be listening to some jazz whilst that is on.

Sport has dominated the proceedings of the day with cousin watching the tennis this morning and then the FA Cup match, followed by the draw for the next round.

I was content reading a book, or a number of book in tandem, from the Tony Benn dipper, Plato's Republic, Henry David Thoreau' “Walden”, “Age of Anxiety” and now Margaret Attwood's “Lady Oracle”, another of those fifty book challenge titles I have set for myself.

In books you rarely find the untermensch of life , just great protagonists in a ripping yarn. And with that thought, with Phil back from his week off , and having something red in a bottle to share, off we shall shortly depart to the Inn in vino veritas.

SATURDAY

Too much sport , too much fucking sport today on television. Motor racing, Indian cricket, horse racing and golf – get me out of here!!! Then to top it Tim puts on some U2 in the evening. Still, back in brighton from Thursday for a long weekend.

I had an hour session down at the library this morning whilst waiting for my IGB capacity of my dongle to come back,

I have been outside enjoying the sun, although cooler than the previous days, reading books and drinking tea or coffee. Finished the Graham Swift novel and reading a book from the library on philosophy plus a book on Google hacks.

Downloaded some podcasts from BBC radio 4 and 3 as well and transferred to the mobile phone to listen to. Currently listening to Jack Kerouac “Poetry for The Beat Generation” as I write. Earlier, listening to podcasts from Radio 4's “Books and Authors” and the radio 3 arts programme. Interesting discussion with Billy Bragg about protest songs on the latter podcast and one about the Beat Generation with a review of the film “Howl”, which I would like to see.

So still with golf on TV , I am listening to some jazz via the music facility on this phone. “Astral Travelling” by Lonnie Liston Smith is such a cool piece of music. So here I am thinking about my next DJ gig with all the funky and cool tunes I could play. I wish I could do a DJ set at the Dover Castle. I think Teynham could have some funk in its soul! (Well there ain't no soul in the place either).

If I get bored I can always go back upstairs and read some more books. At least till the football highlights come on!

So below is what i listened to randomly on my mobile phone.

SUNDAY

Still loads of sport on the box alleviated by cooking programmes,Midsomer Murders (one I have seen already) and nature programmes. I did some more reading. Quite a bit warmer so it afforded me to do some reading out in the garden. Took the German Philosophy book outside plus “What is Deconstruction?” by Christopher Norris and Andrew Benjamin.

Spoke to GC and back to Brighton for a few days from Thursday.
