Quite a dull uninspring day so far. I walked down to the local Spa shop and found that even they have bare shelves due to the haulage driver problems. I spoke to Raj - the shop owner - and he said that he keeps ordering stuff but still getting much less of the supplies he normally has.

Oh well, I picked up a few snacks and some cans of cider for binge watching shows. I discovered this creepy one called Midnight Mass - just seven episodes long - but I feel it will just get bloodier and creepier as it goes along. It has something to do with vampirism as well all know being Buffy fans that a vampire suffers no ills and has great strength and a keen sense of smell. These so-called miracles of the town are nothing to do with religion. That was the awkward part for me is the so-called "I am right you are wrong" attitude of the Catholic faith. I can do without much of the religioso and hence just here for the gore!

However, shows that seem to get better for me are definitely Doom Patrol and Foundation.

Oh, had an email from my mate Gareth from Rugby thanking me for the book I sent him about radio. He still is very much a tech newbie and does not email enough but I sent him my link to LJ , so hopefully he may join.

I was reading an article in Wire from 1992 about the history of black TV here in the UK and  what little of it was recorded as TV originally was mostly live and broadcast tape was expensive or nonexistent at the time. . Anyway, the article mentions some snippets that have survived and here are some of them -

Adelaide Hall at the Nightingale Club, London (1948)

Billie Holiday - I Love You Porgy (Chelsea At Nine) iTV TV 1959

Billie Holiday performing "I Love You Porgy" on Granada TV's "Chelsea At Nine" February 1959. This was one of her last TV appearances before she passed away a few months later. This is videotaping would probably be one of Britain's earliest surviving B&W quad videotape recordings. This night was the last time Billie was ever on TV. She sang Please Don't Talk About Me and Strange Fruit after this song that night. 5 months later she died in New York City (Manhattan). She was 44 years old. She died from heavy drinking and drugs. She died with 70 cents in the bank and 750 dollars she had with her. Deeply sad life.

ENJOY

I have realized I did not post much for Sunday. Well, first of all, I had a migraine in the morning. I went to the local shop to get some eggs, trying to clear my head, taking two ibuprofen tablets, and after doing so I then felt better. I then listened to some music, mostly Bob Dylan - read a few chapters of a book and then started to watch TV.

I watched some old episodes of Sapphire And Steel, and then it was time to watch the second episode of His Dark Materials on BBC1 immediately switching to BBC 4 to watch the jazz. A documentary on Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in Soho London, an hour of music by Ella Fitzgerald followed a potpourri of jazz from various shows on the BBC for a further hour. Then it was midnight.

Hence, now it is the twilight hour again.

In the last couple of days, I have been sampling the platform that is Britbox. This is a media platform that features the best of the BBC and ITV channels and then some. For Corrie fans, it goes way back to the sixties and any Whovian will revel in the episodes going way to An Unearthly Child aired in 1963. That is where I headed first and then to the old ITC channel for UFO and Space 1999.. Also, there is The Prisoner, The Avengers, The Tomorrow People, and Blakes Seven.

It is on a seven-day free trial. So far it is a blast!
