..and Sunday sunbathing.

Yes, it was a glorious warm sunny day. A day I did little except for sunbathing. Well, that and a slow walk into town and back. I made the most of the blue skies and very little or no clouds in the sky. It looks like tomorrow will be even warmer.

However, I will be picking up another CD tower to house my CDs which I found in a charity shop going for a mere five pounds.
Then I will pop over to Ramsgate after bringing the tower back home to do a covert shop.

Lunch was cottage pie with veg and mashed potatoes followed by a very tasty sticky toffee pudding.

Past Sentence was open as well, so I sold a few tatty paperbacks for two quid there.

It was another satisfying day here in sunny Kent.

Around three I went for my walk into town as I said I would earlier. I walked down the back road that follows the railway line and found another household with free books in a box to give out free. About four interesting ones from there. In fact, they always seem to have something and keep refilling the box.

Then at the chazzer next to Spoons, I found a CD from 1995 - Van Morrison's "Days Like These" -for fifty pence, had a couple of beers in Spoons and then walked back.

So, not a bad day.

Some recent pics from my home town -

A scene from outside my local pub in Preston Street.

Well, it turned out to be a very lovely sunny day. This was good because it was another day, my fourth in a row, of walking to town and back.

On my circulatory walk into town this late morning I discovered another household had a box of stuff for passers-by to take free. This was a mixed bag of CDs with some classical ones. So I dived in, coming out with five such goodies. All in very good condition as far as the CD is concerned. Some of the jewel cases will need replacing but otherwise a stonking find.
These are -

Breethoven - Diabelli Variations (Philips)
Brahms - The Late Piano Music (Philips Duo)
J. S. Bach - Concertos For Harpsichord And Strings (IMP Classics)
Poulenc - Piano Music Volume One (Naxos)
Poulenc - Piano Music Volume Two (Naxos)

I will take another route into town tomorrow. Who knows what I might find that day.

Well, another fine sunny day and a little cooler of late reaching 27C. I was glad that we had some breeze as well.

I popped into town to do another Ziffit and then drop off some books to Kate at Past Sentence to which I received six pounds.

I ended up at my local pub and had a couple of beers, my favourite Jaipur IPA.
I then walked home the long way round via the stream that leads from the duck pond heading towards Oare. Along this walk, I went past Chart Mills that is just off Stonebridge Way that leads into Lower Road.

Chart Mills is better known as Gunpowder Mills and is the oldest of its kind in the world. Following the Mills' closure in the 1930s, it fell into disrepair and was almost lost until The Faversham Society rescued the Mills, restored and opened it to the public in April 1969.

The path that follows the stream towards Chart Mills.

Chart Mills - today though it was closed.

One day I will have to investigate it further.

Walking

Another hot sunny day in which i visited Faversham and sold some paperbacks for a fiver.

I took a different route up to Kemsley to get to the rail station but it turned out longer than expected due to me missing a short cut that i had committed to memory and then forgot about. It is quicker going via Milton Regis. At least it was a good walk this morning.

I walked through Milton Regis , a village like area north of Sittingbourne on Thursday. I took a couple of pics of the high street there

Reminds me a bit of Faversham actually.

I walked into Seaford today to have a look around, do some errands and get some fresh air. I posted two Xmas cards as well, and found a hardback book in a charity shop for 30 pence (retails at £20).

Plus i found this one for fifty pence in Hastings  from philosopher Bertrand Russell -

Oh and i have posted my Xmas wish list here -

I waled four and a half miles today towards Faversham this afternoon. It took bout one hour and twenty minutes, as it is still a fine sunny day, i took the challenge of not spending exorbitant pries on the bus system. I had a bag of books to sell at Past Sentence and got eight quid for them, which was not too bad.

I am now in the local Wetherspoons pub enjoying a Bengali Tiger from the Sixpoint brewery in New York. I sat outside the library for a while soaking up the sun and reading a book on Sartre by Iris Murdoch.

I also took some photos during my walk. These are under the cut.

Lovely Day

This morning I walked to Sittingbourne to go to the Office. It was a lovely mild sunny day and I took advantage of it. It took a few minutes less than an hour to complete my leisurely walk to the town.

My cousin Spot had gone to Sittingbourne to get his money and do some food shopping. He missed the 2 pm bus by a few minutes and phoned me wanting to know where I was. I just left the Office and about to walk to the train station. He said he was in Wetherspoons to wait for the next bus and thus I walked back to join him. He was drinking a Guinness and gave me a pint of real ale. We then caught the next bus together. I carried the heavy bag of glass jars, such as Branson's pickle and the one you either love or hate, Marmite.

Still some meat left from the Hamper, especially the top notch venison and the chorizo which we might have over the weekend.

Tomorrow he will be getting a new washing machine which will be here on Saturday. I will be doing some visits including three Icelands, a Wetherspoons and one in Ashford. Another round trip via Faversham to Hythe, Dover, Deal and Herne Bay.

This evening I was listening to the penultimate probe into culture by Melvin Bragg on Radio 4 – just one of the fascinating programmes on that station along with The Material World ( a science programme) and In Our Time.
