Well, since I have high blood pressure already, I have pills to take when I get stressed. I also use prayer and 'relaxation techniques'. Even a walk around the block can be helpful to 'use up' nervous energy and calm me.
I usually start by talking it over with my Hubby, who is my Best Friend! Depending on what the problem is, I may try to find books or online advice, or ask long time friends their opinion.
Yes, to some extent. I try not to let it 'bleed' into other areas of my life.
I get headaches, panic attacks, and my guts give me problems. Not unlike my usual life., just more intense.
Learn as much as I can about the problem. Swear and rant, then go do something that doesn't involve thinking about it. Chores, Read. Watch mindless TV. An idea will come after a time.
stress= music, a walk or shots of whiskey. problem solving- weigh pros and cons, compromise if its with someone else if possible to make win win situation. i guess i do compartmentalize problems to help understand them and find a solution that works the best.
1) mostly not very well. But sometimes i am able to meditate.
2) when possible, the scientific method. Otherwise i tuck in my chin and drive forward or back off and let the problem resolve itself as it will with time.
3) On the contrary!! Since everything is related to everything else i take each problem as having historical, global, social, and sometimes cosmic implications. Was this a problem for gatherer-hunters? If not, when did it originate and why? Then i work forward through every implication, complication and manifestation i can remember or imagine. At worst. when i am through, the people who insist i try to solve the problem have long ago left the room.
In a word: poorly. My usual response to stress is to eat. That is probably why I am 100 pounds overweight. I have heard people say that the best way to deal with stress is to take control of the situation. That is usually easier said than done. Sex can be a great stress-reliever if it can be arranged. Masturbation will help too. I am surprised that no one else suggested this one! Also, humor can be a help. A good laugh can relieve stress and put one in a better frame of mind.
What methods do you use to solve a problem?
Talk things over with friends. Just the act of talking about a problem seems to relieve some of the burden of the problem. Often friends will have some insight or suggestion that can help. Another method that sometimes works for me is to sleep on it. It is surprising how often a solution to a problem comes to me in a dream.
Do you compartmentalize a problem?
Breaking a problem down into parts can be very helpful. Problems are more manageable and less intimidating when they can be approached in smaller pieces.
When confronted with a serious problem, just remember this little rhyme:
When in Danger, When in doubt, Run in circles, Scream and Shout.
I try self-talk, keep myself in a calm atmosphere, go for a walk, have a nice warm bath, play calming music. I have found EFT works, too. But the truth is I have a lot of trouble coping with stress. I do it very badly.
I think about it, talk to my friends about it and if I still haven't solved it, I will sleep on it to see if my brain can come up with a solution overnight (it takes a lot longer than overnight these days). I guess another method I use for some things is look up the 'net!
Not usually. I usually can't think of anything else. As I said, I'm bad with stress. Sometimes I might put an unsolvable problem in the back of my mind if I don't have to find an answer until some distant time in the future. Usually when I do that, though, I still haven't found a solution when the time comes!
It all depends on what you mean by stress? Mental thoughts? Feelings in the body? Or a combination of the two? At the risk of being churlish, stress is a mental construct and ipso facto does not exist except in our minds. I know you'll think this airy fairy, but when you dig down into the sensation(s), you'll realise this is the case. The way our mind works -- the egoic mind -- is to always want something to get its teeth into. If we're able to relax into the moment (no drugs needed...), then we'll find that the mind naturally subsides. The thoughts won't' go away but our attachment to them will lessen. Think of it this way, behind the thoughts exist the witness or watcher of those thoughts (and experiences the feelings). If you're able to stay in that state more often, life becomes a whole lot easier. Blessings Julian _/\_
I focus on the issue causing the problem and then try to come up with at least two possible solutions. If it is something I can solve, I do. if not, then I try to readjust my thinking so it's not so much my problem.
I usually go for a run or a heavy workout and try to push myself physically into the ground so at least I sleep well. I've tried drinking and smoking heavily in the past and just feel worse. At least after some physical exercise you feel like you've done yourself some good...

I do my best to do so, but it doesn't work well.

3. Hell, I compartmentalize my entire LIFE. It's something I'm trying to overcome, as a matter of fact.

Sometimes. It depends on the problem.

I think about my options when dealing with a problem and go with the solution that I
can most live with with.
I don't compartmentalize a problem - it affects all of my life until it can be resolved.
If it cannot be solved, I do my best to live with it.
