A much cooler day with some sunshine and some cloud and a little windy as well. Much better to do some work and that is what I did, four visits in total. Two in Gravesend , one in Rochester and one in Sittingbourne. A very productive day.

Two of the four visits were charity shops as well.

Rochester High Street.

So, now it is time to do some reports.

Well, another fine sunny day and a little cooler of late reaching 27C. I was glad that we had some breeze as well.

I popped into town to do another Ziffit and then drop off some books to Kate at Past Sentence to which I received six pounds.

I ended up at my local pub and had a couple of beers, my favourite Jaipur IPA.
I then walked home the long way round via the stream that leads from the duck pond heading towards Oare. Along this walk, I went past Chart Mills that is just off Stonebridge Way that leads into Lower Road.

Chart Mills is better known as Gunpowder Mills and is the oldest of its kind in the world. Following the Mills' closure in the 1930s, it fell into disrepair and was almost lost until The Faversham Society rescued the Mills, restored and opened it to the public in April 1969.

The path that follows the stream towards Chart Mills.

Chart Mills - today though it was closed.

One day I will have to investigate it further.

So, I watched the final episode of Season 7 of The Flash tonight. However, there will be a Season 8. YAY!!

Another hot sticky day reaching 28C in the garden with high humidity. But we had some breeze for a change!

Have not done much today. Preferred to soak in the sun rather than do anything strenuous. So an hour or so of just sunbathing, listening to music, having some food, and reading.

Applied for some visits from HS Brands. Seems years since I did any shops for them, so fingers crossed.

I did walk into town and back to have a meal and a drink at my local pub. Bangers and mash again. A pint of Jaipur and a glass of red merlot. Damn satisfying!!

The eBay sales are dead sluggish at the moment. I guess it is the weather and that perhaps sometimes people do not want to buy books and CDs. Really? My prices are competitive and fair, so I think there are just too many outlets and too many eBayers.

Oh well, might pop into Past Sentence tomorrow and see if Kate will take some off me.

I must admit that the humidity today got to me until the thunder in the afternoon when it cooled off slightly. Another hot day - 29C - but the humidity made it heavy. Tomorrow it will be 27C so it will not be as drenching.

Meanwhile, in the common room, somebody had left a Cd rack with a number of Cds which I learned was from the guy at flat 15 who passed away recently. His family put a notice upon the common room door to say that the CDs and rack were free to take. There were only two CDs that interested me - a Byrds compilation and a compilation of tracks by Traffic and another of Sam Cooke recordings. The rack is a spinner and holds up to 80 CD's!

And yes, I have almost filled it up.

The CDs were stacked on top of each other which made getting a CD near the bottom of the stack cumbersome. Now all I have to do is spin to the right one.

Lunch was a delicious cottage pie washed down with a couple of ciders.

All the reports from Monday are now completed.

And now back to the music. Mahler time!

Well, the forecast was for a rainy day and just a crappy day. However, after some early rain in the morning, the rest of the day remained dry, if mostly dull and overcast. Good to know that the forecast from Thursday onwards is mostly sunshine all the way. Also, Thursday is now my new day for doing some visits around south London. That is, Beckenham, Welling, and some train rides.

Yesterday I did my other stint in the common room. The classical and all kinds of music mix, but nobody came and I finished playing my CD's before six, and then I pondered that it might be more fruitful to do this in the winter months. Sunday was quite a sunny day despite not reaching above 19C.

I did watch overnight the complete MCU Infinity War and Endgame - once again - and then watched Spiderman Far From Home again, as the latter deals with the fallout from Thanos's click - taking out fifty percent of all life - and the Avengers blip. It is the blip that is relevant in the stories of the recent MCU TV shows, The Winter Soldier And The Falcon, and WandaVision, and to a lesser extent, Loki. One deals with the problem of having half the world population back and the consequences of rehabituation, and the other deals with the fact of losing a loved one (Vision) due to being snubbed out by Thanos, and hence creating a world where that loved one still exists as a television show, unable to face the fact of his demise.

Some shows I dom look forward to both TV and film we are The Eternals, and the Hawekey spin-off, and hopefully not too long, for the Guardians of The Galaxy 3!

Well, we had the usual weather of clouds and rain and a little brightness but not much else. Where has the summer gone I ask?

Not much to report. Had lunch in my local pub. Another mixed grill of course. It always fills me up.

Due to the crap weather, I have moved the Rochester visit to next week now.

Hopefully, summer will return.

Well, it was being good out despite the fact the weather remained stubbornly variable. Started with a sunny morning, then clouded over by midday and slowly nudged back into the lighter cloud with blue skies.

At least the day brightened up by seeing my mate Ewart. On my excursion to Deal earlier in the week I found a paperback box set that would be of interest to him - The Beatles Box - and sod it for five pounds - just fifty pence more than I paid for it. We had a couple of beers each at The Bull pub and then we went our separate ways.

I popped into the charity shop next door to Spoons and bought a 30 CD rack to add to my other CD racks - it was only a quid - so dead cheap relly. I then ended up in Spoons and had another drink with a burger and chips. Then I went home in time to do my common room jazz CD stint. A couple of neighbours came and listened which was good.

Tomorrow I intend to do two more charity shops in Rochester and Gravesend for one of my companies.

Once again, the weather remains unpredictable. A dull start to the day, a little shower during midday, and a sunny afternoon. It is knowing what to wear is the problem, and you end up being overburdened with unnecessary clothing when it warms up. But, however you shake it down, this July has yet to be as glorious as the one we had the previous year. I ask myself where is the summer?

I must admit I have not done much today, except complete a report for the Monday visits. Listening to the radio as well and some fascinating BBC programs on Beethoven in these Composers of the Week podcasts.

I have taken the plunge and ordered the seven CD box set of Dinu Lipatti that was first mentioned in Wire back in 1991. They sound remarkably clear and fresh despite being mono and from the forties and fifties.

A bargain at £12 no matter what.

Busy Day

Another early evening siesta took longer than expected. Well, I had a long busy day and arrived home around seven knackered. On a gloriously sunny day with a nice warm breezy 25C, I did an excursion around Kent doing five visits as I o when I am covert shopping.

I left this morning on the nine o'clock bus and headed to Folkestone first, then up to Deal for a second job, then Margate and Ramsgate, ending up in Canterbury. I had little time to do any unrelated charity shop persuing or general window shopping as time was tight.

Anyway, that is it till July. So a nice relaxing Sunday ahead.

I was expecting the weather to be more mercurial according to the forecast, but it stayed quite pleasant on the whole. Go figure.

So, all I did was stayed at home doing some online mystery shops and walking down to the local convenience store and back.

Still, at least I managed to get some other reading done, book-wise that is.

Just hope Saturday is as lovely.
jazzy_dave: (Default)
Well, what a wet horrible day it has been. It rained on and off for the best part of the day. However, it did not stop me from doing some visits today in Sittingbourne, Hempstead Valley, and Sheerness. At least it was warm rain when it did fall. Then getting home to have some Cds arrive in the post made the day for me. The two CDs that arrived are the third album from Van Der Graaf Generator called "H To He Who Am The Only One" (from 1970) and Iannis Xenakis's "Oresteia".

So now for an evening of listening ahead.

Another hot sweaty day reaching around 28C here in Faversham. However, thunderstorms are forecast for tomorrow. Hopefully, they will cool off the humidity that leads to torpor.

For my excursions though, I headed off to Ashford to do a couple of visits.

I came back to town and headed to Spoons for a decidedly cool drink of Exmoor Beast (6.5 % ABV).

Dinner was a chicken salad with egg florentine. washed down with cider of course.
jazzy_dave: (Default)
Finally, after a whole morning, my internet is back working on the HP laptop.  Thankfully, I have had little to do this morning except to get some cider from the local store. I will have to put some apps back on though  at some point, such as the video player, but otherwise, all is good and ticketyboo.
Now, before I forget, I watched the first episode of the six-part series, Loki, on OnionPlay.  From the get-go, I enjoyed it all the way.
Weather today is slightly cooler, and around a much more temperate 24C. I suspect we may get some thunderstorms toward the end of the week.

jazzy_dave: (Default)
Another sunny warm day. Another sunbathing day. A lovely 26C with an occasional breeze. I did some sunbathing of course. But I also went out for a walk to the town late afternoon to send off another Ziffit package. On the way back I found some books a house was giving away free outside of the property so I picked up a few for my next Ziffiit, with a couple I am keeping. The two I am keeping are the following -

Interesting Times: A Twentieth-Century Life…I Am the Blues by Willie Dixon

Lunch was a very tasty salmon and egg salad. Well, for a hot day I thought something cold would be better.

I also had a long evening siesta hence the lateness of this post.
jazzy_dave: (Default)
Another scorcher. This time we topped 29C easily by the afternoon.

I had a visit to do in Canterbury and picked up a few cheap CDs from various charity shops. Another Sibelius one, this time of his second and seventh symphonies, a Beethoven Emperor concerto and string quartets by Dvorak.

String Quartet No. 1 In A, Op. 2 / Terzetto In C Op. 74 / Drobnosti Op. 75a (CD, Album) album coverPiano Concerto No. 5 "Emperor" • "Triple Concerto" (CD, Compilation, Remastered) album coverSymphonies No. 2 & No. 7 (CD, Compilation, Remastered) album cover

Apart from that, I have been enjoying the sunshine and sunbathing.

Just finished a couple of hours having an evening siesta.

Rain Again

Jun. 4th, 2021 02:11 pm
jazzy_dave: (Default)
Well, what a crappy day. First of all, I have internet problems this morning. Well, it turned out to be the PC in the end but now sorted. So, I never did get round to posting a "Good
morning" post.

Also. the weather decides to dump shit loads of rain on us. And it is still bucketing down. I never did the Brixton visit as that was cancelled as well.

At least we have music!
jazzy_dave: (Default)
Finally, it seems that the summer is here with temps reaching 20C!! Managed to get some serious sunbathing done after my journey to Folkestone.

Yep, I did another of these exit surveys as somebody else failed to do the work, so I was brought in to snap the final quota. It couldn't have happened on a sunnier day. I had to leave early though as it was a ten to two pm shift, so I caught the 7:20 AM bus to Canterbury first before picking up the Folkestone bus. I was in the town by 9:30 AM.

I did some charity shop perusing in Canterbury, after finishing work, and before heading home. Picked up one jazz CD and a couple of classical ones for four quid.

Back in Faversham I found my sweet hot spot near the library and sunbathed for a few hours drinking some canned beer. By then it was blue skies all the way!!

I also bought a book from Past Sentence. Well, I just had to see the lovely Kate.
So, I hope the next few days are just as sunny.
jazzy_dave: (Default)
The weather, once again, is proving to be temperamental and unpredictable. Today we have had gusty winds up to fifty m.p.h in the ascendancy. I decided to reschedule my visit to Ashford tomorrow. It is a chocolate store visit.

The forecast is for a much milder, less windy day.

As for today, I have been slumped over the keyboards writing reports and doing some mystery shops online.

I had not reckoned how quickly the time went. I guess I was engrossed and sublimated into the tasks at hand.

So, I just had my dinner, a Lancashire hot pot followed by a very delicious sticky toffee pudding with custard. I had no beer as I drunk it all the previous evening. It is less windy now, so I might pop to the local store and get some. They are open till eight except Sundays.
No more procrastination, I am going.
jazzy_dave: (Default)
Well folks, another day in which the weather decided to play ping-pong. We had substantial rain in the morning, followed by a windy dry spell, and a heatwave late afternoon.

Makes it difficult to know what to wear.

Anyway, I had to pop into Sittigbourne to see my "work coach" - right - if ever there was a misnomer - but I was only in the office for no more than fifteen minutes, and then hot tailed it to Penge East to grab some more free books. They have cut down the choice of bookcases to two and the choice of good ones has somewhat thinned out. Nonetheless, I came away with fifteen interesting ones. Some will be distributed amongst the ladies here whilst the others are for keeps or resale.

Dinner was a hot chilli beef dish with extra jalapenos!!
