Well folks, I don’t know how your two days of Xmas went but mine was quiet and yet enjoyable. I was going to have a curry on the day itself but yesterday Annie who lives above me came to the rescue and cooked a delicious Xmas Day roast with all the trimmings. Chicken, beef, and lamb were all part of it along with Brussel sprouts, broccoli, carrots, roasted potatoes, and Yorkshire pudding. I was stuffed by the end of it. All washed down with an Italian merlot vino.

I had a couple of CDs from my b and sister-in-law plus a malt whisky from Phil.

Today I made myself a delicious mushroom carbonara pasta dish washed down with a top-quality Cabernet Sauvignon wine.

Plus cider before and after the main meal, LOL!!

Well, another change in the weather. Much sunnier and milder today.
I popped into town to get some food wine and beer.
I had a small snack for lunch but dinner was delicious fresh salmon with mashed potato and peas. Washed down with white wine of course.

Very tasty brain food.

Listened to some more jazz avant-garde stuff with latest Cd from Alender Hawkins.

Togetherness Music (For Sixteen Musicians) (CD, Album) album cover

I had a very large salmon steak so the rest of it will be with rice tomorrow.

Well, it sure was a scorcher today. Up to 35 C and not much less than that in the shade. However, there was a cool breeze which tempered the excessive heat except for the sun trap near the library. I popped into town you see to sell some books and then go across the Swale to do another supermarket cafe visit at Queenborough.

This is what I had.

An all-day breakfast brunch with black pudding.

And yes, I do love my pepper!

Then once I had finished that meal I came back into Sittingbourne and melting from the heat went and got this cold drink.

Belgian chocolate crushed frostino with cream on top! Cold and yummy!

It turned out to be a lovely sunny day. I completed three visists, starting in Maidstone, and then in Hempstead Valley, and finally here in Waldeslade area of Medway. I am doing one of my drink only visits. A pint of IPA and a glass of red vino!

TomorrowI have just Canterbury and Westwood \crsoo shopping centre.

Cheers and salutations!

Well,. what a gloriously warm sunny day it has been for me. Stonking good sunbathing weather near the library which I exactly did for a good few hours, as well as some here in the gardens at the place.

In town, I entered Spoons for a yummy chicken breast, with coleslaw, hot chilli sauce and Mexican rice.

I had a few beers there - well three in fact.

So now at home, just had a coffee, and not having anything else as I will be watching this evening a three-hour film. Yep, I am definitely seeing Avengers Endgame tonight. I need to make sure I have an empty bladder by then, lol!

At least I had no truculent recalcitrant obdurate jobsworth to deal with today. In fact, I had a pleasant time completing the last two pub food visits in Sittingbourne. I decided to get them out of the way today - as firstly, it was s a sunny windy day, and secondly, the next two days the batches will need to be in place. We have a wet windy storm coming with winds up to 70 mph!

Luckily it is a quiet week, so good in one way, but bad financially. Anyway, the next few jobs aren't expected until Thursday. So, for now, it's bunker time.

Steak Day

Once I finished my train survey and alighted in Sittingbourne I took the train up to Sheerness to do my pub visit. I had my usual rump steak which was delicious succulent and tender. Washed down with a Brewdog  Punk IPA and a can of Black Sheep Pathmaker IPA.

So two  jobs done with three tomorrow in the Capital. Eaerly start again.

The sun struggked and the mist won in the end.

Posted those books off.

Had lunch at Spoons asit wassteak club day.

Well it was pay day from ESA,React and Lodge so lunch it was.

Listened to all the new albums now.

Well,it turned out to br a good day and the weather stayed lovely for my trip to London.I recieved nine pounds for my exchanges over at MVE in Notting Hill,

There i found the following -

Toru Takemitsu - Riverrun
Nurse With Wound -Living Fear of James Last
Goldie - Timeless

Then i took the bus towards the Connaught Village ,north of the Bayswater Road and Hyde Park for my covert lunch visit. I had a vegan curry washed down with a glass of mulled wine.

I then took the bus to the Soho area to see if other shops i use to visit are still extant.Sister Ray is still there in Berwick Street where I found the following for around £3 each -

The Matthew Herbert Big Band - There's Me And There’s You
Fela Kuti and Egypt 80 - Underground System

I also noticed that Reckless Records was still thriving and in Broadwick Street Sounds Of The Inverse were still busy. They have all the Soul Jazz record releases in stock and some tasty jazz albums.

I then walked down Charing| Cross Road and poope into Foyle's bookshop to the second floor where Ray’s jazz Shop is to be found. I found this album going cheap -

Don Byron - The Tuskegee Experiment.

They are all great finds -and i shall be listening to these over the next few days.

Another busy day coming to a close. I am currently in Sevenoaks having just finished a beef madras curry with beer at a ‘Spoons pub. The last of my three covert shops today. The other two were mobile phone shop visits. The weather started atrocious this morning after we had the free breakfast at the Quays. But by the afternoon it had cleared up and the sun came out for awhile, giving us a bit of winter warmth.
The cough is slowly abating as the mucus is shifted by a tincture that tastes worse than an old sock, I am beginning to feel slightly better, some hacking still, but less of it.

Thankfully, the Doom Bar was off today so rather than that designated drink from my choice of what i can have on these scenarios, i had a pint of Tonbridge American Pale Ale. (5.4 % ABV).
Soon i shall be heading home knowing that Friday i have nothing planned but a cinema visit on the Saturday in Rochester..

Needed a break from walking or at least standing around,so i am in a coffee shop using their free WiFi. I am in London having done a visit this morning at Ealing Broadway rail station. Had to be therefor 8.30 am so i left home this morning sometime just after five in the morning. It was standing at the station for two hours just making a note how long it takes customers from joining a queue to when they get at the front at the ticket office or TVM if it applies.

I then went by underground to Notting Hill Gate to see how much of MVE is left (Music and Video Exchange in full). They use to have three shops along that road and a bookshop around the corner. Now they have been just reduced to the one shop in Notting Hill.

It was our monthly lunch club day in Brighton. Phil picked me up at the usual time and we headed down towards Brighton. We met at the Post and Telegraph - a 'Spoons pub - and had a couple of beers. Lunch was at our usual venue, Bella Italia, Mike and i had the Calzone Diavola which is described as "Spicy ‘nduja sausage, Italian pepperoni, chicken, mozzarella, red onion, cherry bell pepper and green chilli". Calzone is a folded pizza with pomodoro sauce.

Then for dessert most of the party opted for the Framenti.

Fried dough sugared strips with chocolate 🍫 sauce. On my word,so delicious. Not enough chocolate sauce though!

All washed down with the house red vino.

On the walk back to the station car park i popped into Across The Tracks to see what jazz and improv |D's they had. Found three for three quid each.

Spunk ‎– Still Eating Ginger Bread For Breakfast (Rune Grammofon)
Mats Gustafsson, Christof Kurzmann ‎– Falling and 5 Other Failings (Trost)
Barney Wilen - Dreamtime (Nocturne)

It was a very enjoyable day.

Phil,Graeme,Mike on the left,Lesley and her son , Chris ,on the right. This is the first time he has been to one of our lunches. He is a student at The University of Kent in Canterbury studying social anthropology. He lives on campus at the moment but will be moving into student digs at some point. I suggested he check out the Spoons pub in the city and in particular The Westgate Inn.

We started with the small ciabattas dipped in garlic. Mike had his usual pizza and this time i tired a beef and red wine ravioli. It was delicious.

A thoroughly enjoyable day as well.

Turkey crown, pigs in blankets, roasted chestnuts, roast potatoes, carrots, and so on made a great Xmas dinner lunch. We started with a couple of rum and cokes, wine for lunch and after a few malt whiskies and coffee Poor old Ros was not up to anything eating wise and bro struggled a bit leaving me to finish the rest.

I am now completely stuffed and full. We watched an episode og=f the alumni version of University Challenge which had the stemmed novelist Val Mc Dermid on one of the teems. Their team won by a landslide.

Xmas gifts were a new jumper,a pair of headphones, and two books.

These were -

I am now full, as i just done a Spoons visit in Maidstone as part of my mystery shopping trips today. The other was a mobile phone shop visit in Ashford.

In the pub i had their buttermilk coated chicken burger, a beer and a cappuccino. Basic but tasty.

I also took a few snaps as it was another fine warm sunny day.

The truncheon girls were fun to watch!
jazzy_dave: (Default)
I have been sunning myself in my usualspot outside the library where it traps the sun rays efficiently. Temperatures rising to ariund 28 degrees C as well!

A good couple of hours of sunbathing in fact after looking around the food market held in the town each first Saturday of the month.

I sampled some cheeses, chilli olive oil, spicy honey and ginger sauces and a very tasty artisan bread. So i got the camera out and snapped a few pics.

Boxing Day

Dec. 27th, 2012 11:58 pm

After the disaster that was Xmas Day we eventually had our Xmas lunch on Boxing Day. Turkey breast fillets, mashed potato, peas, and the traditional brussell sprout with gravy. It was washed down with a good quality red wine , which I discovered was half full before lunch. The bastard had already drunk some before I got up.

Thank goodness I hid the malt whisky from him.

Anyway we exchanged presents. He got me the Brian Cox book “Wonders Of The Universe”, a coffee table sized BBC Book. I got him a book on Kent Cricket Greats, a book on Dave Grohl (Nirvana , Foo Fighters) plus a Killers CD and a James CD – all sourced from charity shops.

Later on we had some cold meats, cheese, pickles a relish from the hamper that my brother sent us. Loved the smoked beef and the Shropshire ham. Tomorrow might try the venison.

Watched The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo last night on Channel Four and tonight is the second one of the Millennium trilogy, and is also the original Swedish version.

Yesterday I took the train from Seaford over to Moulscoomb station to see my brother. Had lunch with him and Rosalind. A delicious chicken Kiev dish with new potatoes and a medley of sweet corn and peas. Pre-lunch had a couple of Bombadiers, with the meal being washed down by a fruity French red. This was followed by a filling apple pie with custard. Mike and I then finished the day by demolishing a 50 cl bottle of malt whisky.

He also gave me five anniversary singles form the Motown label to put on my Discogs site, although I am rather tempted to keep them. The singles came out in 2009 as a limited edition collection to celebrate 50 years of the Motown sound.

The earliest one is the Barratt Strong record “Money” which the Beatles covered in their formative years. One of the best tracks in the collection is The Temptations “Get Ready”. , one of my favourite tunes form the late sixties on that label.

Today I visited Lewes again to do another Green King pub visit over at Landport area of the town. The real ale choice was down to one only - the basic IPA.

Back to Kent tomorrow, and on Wednesday I am meant to take cousin over to Canterbury to the Kent cricket ground as he has a couple of complementary tickets, but alas, the dosh situation will not stretch to it. If it was for next Monday instead then it wouldn’t be a problem as I have a pay remittance from one of my companies I do visits for in my bank that day. Sod’s bloody law!
